AFC Urgent Care Portland: Scheduling Integration
Customer
American Family Care (AFC) Urgent Care operates walk-in medical clinics across the Portland, Oregon metro area, including a Beaverton location. This wasn’t a one-off build: CimpleO has maintained and extended the clinic’s Drupal 7 site over several years, working directly with AFC’s own marketing staff on a running list of features and fixes rather than a single fixed-scope project.
Our task
AFC’s site needed to do more than list services — it had to get patients into a specific clinic on a specific visit type, keep a multi-location practice’s content (team pages, locations, blog, news) manageable for non-technical staff, and stay indexed correctly in search as the site grew. Requests came in continuously, from the practice’s own staff, covering everything from scheduling logic to page layout to SEO metadata.
What we built
Scheduling integration. The site’s appointment scheduler runs on ClockwiseMD, a third-party medical scheduling platform — we built and maintained the custom Drupal module connecting it to the site, adding new visit types (including Sports Physicals and DOT/CDL commercial-driver physicals) as the clinic’s own scheduling backend was configured to support them, and adding location-specific confirmation-page content for clinics like Beaverton.
CareClub membership page. A dedicated landing page for the clinic’s membership program: pricing plans, a webform signup, an FAQ accordion, anchor-linked smooth-scroll navigation, and links out to clinic terms and price lists.
Content systems for a non-technical marketing team. A “News Post” content type mirroring the existing blog so AFC’s staff could post press releases separately from blog content; a redesigned blog layout (including fixing category/tag pages to match the main blog’s design); a Career content type with its own page template, benefits-toggle interactions, and a public /careers recruitment landing page; and AddThis social-sharing links on blog and news posts.
SEO and infrastructure. Fixed auto-generated meta-title templates that had stopped including the page title after a module update, de-indexed duplicate user and blog-draft pages from Google, added taxonomy-weight-based sorting for the team page, and migrated the site through hosting changes — from Bluehost, to a self-managed DigitalOcean server, to Pantheon’s managed Drupal hosting with proper dev/test/live environments.
Results
The relationship has run for years past the original build, which is the actual result: the site keeps pace with a growing clinic group without AFC needing to re-platform or bring in a new vendor for each new feature — a scheduling change, a new content type, a hosting migration — as the practice’s needs changed.
